Manapparai Faces Water Crisis
As the Manapparai constituency gears up for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections, residents are hoping for urgent solutions to their long-standing water problems. Additionally, the constituency is famous for its native variety of brinjal, further emphasizing its agricultural significance.
Industrial Development at SIPCOT Park
In a bid to improve the economic landscape, the Manapparai SIPCOT Industrial Park has been established, covering 1,097 acres across surrounding villages. This initiative aims to boost heavy engineering and food production industries in the area. Currently, 30 companies have been allotted land on a 99-year lease, with several of them operational in recent months, potentially transforming the local job market.
Job Creation and Growth Opportunities
According to A. Marimuthu, the project officer at SIPCOT, the park’s strategic location—close to major highways and the Tiruchirappalli airport—positions it as an ideal hub for industrial development. The project is expected to generate approximately 3,000 jobs for local residents in the coming year, with the prospect of further job creation as more companies begin their operations. The focus is particularly on skilled workers, which could elevate the local workforce’s capabilities.
Enhancing Education Facilities
Efforts to enhance educational infrastructure have also been made, with the inauguration of a Government Arts and Science College in 2024 at a cost of ₹14.94 crore. However, challenges persist due to its remote location and a lack of permanent teaching faculty. Rajya Sabha member Salma emphasizes the importance of higher education, expressing hopes that it will level the playing field for students from rural backgrounds.

Salma has also highlighted plans for a new government engineering college, recently proposed to meet the growing educational demands in the area. The approval of this project is anxiously awaited, as it could significantly enhance educational access for students in Manapparai and surrounding suburbs.
