At the recent Republic Day parade in Tirupati, the Agriculture Department showcased remarkable advancements in agricultural technology through a tableau featuring a cutting-edge robotic sprayer. This device not only streamlines the process of administering pesticides but also minimizes human contact with harmful chemicals.

Dubbed the ‘Farm Robo’, this mobile sprayer is designed to navigate various trees and plants, including mango, plantain, lime, and pomegranate. Its capabilities extend to moving under creepers and throughout gardens planted with vegetables or crops like sugarcane and cotton. By automating dosage accuracy, the Farm Robo can cover extensive areas in a considerably shorter time, enhancing efficiency while maintaining the health of crops.

Testimony of a Progressive Farmer

Progressive farmer G. Venkatarama Raju, who gained recognition at the parade, underscores the importance of these technologies in revolutionizing agriculture. Raju, a war veteran turned innovative farmer, expresses that embracing such technology can significantly reduce the time and effort involved in farming tasks.

“Farmers can greatly benefit from adopting this technology. If more of them shed their apprehensions and take the leap, they’ll undoubtedly experience positive results,” Raju stated, highlighting the potential of mechanization to alleviate traditional farming challenges.

Creating Awareness and Infrastructure

In addition to promoting the use of farm robots, Raju is committed to educating local farmers about natural farming practices. He has established an office in Railway Kodur and developed training infrastructure aimed at empowering ryots with knowledge on using modern equipment effectively.

Farmers can explore various tools on display, including drones, mini tractors, and the robot sprayers, while also receiving hands-on training in their use. Raju further supports aspiring farmers by providing them with seeds, seedlings, and organic farming inputs such as ‘Jeevamrutam’ and ‘Panchagavya’. Furthermore, a buyback option is available to instill confidence in those exploring the path of natural farming.

Government Support for Agricultural Innovation

Raju has appealed to the District Collector, S. Venkateswar, to include Tirupati district in the Government of India’s FARM (Financing Agrochemical Reduction and Management) project. This initiative aims to transition one million farmers toward safer and more resilient agricultural practices.

By integrating innovative technologies and sustainable methods, the FARM project stands to significantly impact the agricultural landscape, ensuring that farmers can optimize both productivity and environmental stewardship.
