Isolated Summer Showers Expected in Kerala This Weekend

Kerala to Experience Isolated Summer Showers

As the summer heat intensifies, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated summer showers across Kerala during the upcoming weekend. The weather bulletin, released on March 25, 2026, indicates that a trough is extending from Marathwada to south coastal Karnataka, running across north interior Karnataka. Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation is persisting over South Interior Karnataka at around 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Thundershowers Forecasted for Friday to Sunday

The IMD has predicted that these weather systems will likely bring isolated thundershowers to various districts of Kerala from Friday to Sunday. Residents can expect a break from the relentless heat, albeit briefly, with the possibility of rain providing some much-needed relief.

Heat Alert Issued by KSDMA

In contrast to the expected showers, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has also issued a heat alert for multiple districts. On Thursday, the temperatures are forecasted to soar close to 38°C in specific areas of Kollam, Kottayam, and Palakkad. Moreover, places like Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur are predicted to see maximum temperatures around 37°C.

Temperature Predictions for Other Districts

Meanwhile, the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram, and Kasaragod may experience temperatures reaching about 36°C. These temperatures are projected to be 2 to 3°C above the normal range for this time of year, adding to the discomfort of residents in these regions.

Hot and Humid Conditions to Continue

Despite the anticipated showers, hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail throughout most of Kerala, especially in non-hilly areas. The public is advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Conclusion

As Kerala braces for these isolated summer showers this weekend, residents should be prepared for a mix of weather conditions. The combination of approaching thundershowers and existing heat advisories emphasizes the need for vigilance in outdoor activities during this transitional weather period.

Stay tuned to local weather updates to better plan your weekend activities amid these fluctuations in the forecast.
